BC Hydro Awards Outage Scheduling System Contract to Equinox Software Design Corporation
Vancouver, B.C. - December 20, 2002
Equinox Software Design Corporation is proud to announce that BC Hydro has selected our Outage Scheduling solution for implementation in Grid Operations. The Outage Scheduling solution is the fourth system module BC Hydro has purchased in Equinox Software's utility operations product: the Control Room Operations Window. Currently, over 700 employees including system dispatchers in 5 Control Centres use the Control Room Operations Window. As a result of implementing the Control Room Operations Window across the organization, BC Hydro has been able to significantly reduce the number of separate computer systems and databases required to support electric system Operations.
Implementation of the Outage Scheduling module will commence in December 2002. The Equinox Software Product Delivery team has worked closely with BC Hydro and the project sponsor to define and document critical requirements. The completed system will be rolled out in the Spring, 2003.

The Control Room Operations Window is an industry leading solution designed to support critical utility operations processes: Plan – Log – Notify – Report – RESOLVE. Improved coordination of forced and planned electric system outages, improved targeting of reliability centered maintenance and reducing the number of discrete databases/applications are key benefits of the system. The Control Room Operations Window contains both a client/server application for Control Room Dispatchers who demand performance and reliability, and a web-browser application for employees who use the system less frequently. The Control Room Operations Window shares key operating data with many other systems through a robust XML/SOAP application program interface and complies with the EPRI Common Information Model (CIM). This system has proven that it can stand up to the demands of utility operations and Control Centers that run 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
